Hazard Notification on or Near Guards

Hazard notifications appropriate for the level and type of hazard should follow form defined in ISO 3864. Hazard notifications should be placed where they are conspicuous to the user. Hazard notifications should not be applied to surfaces prone to wear. Hazard notifications should not be of a size or position that encourages the user to enter the hazard area. Avoid
use of written warnings, as personnel vary in background; language-independent notifications are best.

Hazard notifications that are internationally recognized and alert through a simple visual symbol are preferred. This is the essence of the ISO 3864 direction. The format presented includes a graphic icon for the hazard and a signal word to signify the level of hazard.

Internationally recognized hazard notifications are suitable for international customers and for conditions where users speak
different languages.

  • Describe the hazards of the equipment.
  • Describe actions taken to reduce risk.
